WHY AN INDEPENDENT ACADEMY AND WHY REDE?

As an independent academy, we have the flexibility to implement the best education practices from around the world. Not being dependent on public funding, our curriculum isn't driven by standardized testing but instead based on interdisciplinary opportunities to give the core courses relevance. Rede has an inspiring approach to educating and learning: the pace, the perspective, the collaborative spirit, the level of inclusion, the emphasis on well-being, the spontaneous and free form as well as the guided and pedagogical.  Our ideal class size is 12 and we think of learning in terms of intellectual inquiry (age appropriate standards), movement (the physical aspect of learning), socio-emotional (self-advocacy + how to communicate with each other + making connections + structured conflict resolution) and experiences that build character and global readiness. Our core and culture is full inclusion and we’re intentional on the Rede community (learners, families, educators, leadership and supporters) being diverse.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A MULTI-AGE CLASSROOM?

Younger children have peer models, older children naturally take on leadership roles, and all children learn from the experiences and knowledge of peers and implicitly develop a growth mindset by witnessing learning, change, and growth. Research on the benefits of multi-age classes goes back decades and continues to be proven by research today. Children have the opportunity to be the youngest, the oldest, and the in-between. They learn to collaborate and compromise, plan and negotiate, and work in groups and by themselves. And, the three-year classroom cycle allows children to get deeply comfortable and educators to really get to know each child. Our multi-age classes are lower elementary studio (K/1st/2nd) and upper elementary studio (3rd/4th/5th).

DOES THE ACADEMY WELCOME CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES OR LEARNING DIFFERENCES?

Absolutely. Our core and culture is full inclusion and we’re intentional on each classroom being a naturally proportionate microcosm of the world. If our pedagogy resonates with you and you think Rede would be a great fit for your family, you are encouraged to inquire to learn more of how we do things differently, better. {click to learn more}

WHAT ABOUT TRANSPORTATION?

To support families and provide the greater Triangle with convenient access to Rede, we connect parents interested in carpooling and can help parents coordinate with a transportation service. The cost for transportation is covered by parents and paid directly to the transportation service.
